A contemporary art exhibition where works play with the theme of the cabin and its imaginary.
Cabane, the new exhibition-event at Le Delta, invites you to explore a theme evocative of freedom and carefreeness. For the first time, 23 Belgian and international artists are brought together over two floors of Le Delta, presenting more than 30 works on this universal theme.
Who has never built a cabin or dreamed of the free life it promises? Erected in a room with sheets, with branches deep in a forest, or with cardboard in the city, cabins populate our environment. Though familiar, the motif continues to fascinate. For a child, a cabin is a space for play and imagination; for an adult, a temporary retreat from everyday life and its frenzy; for migrants or the homeless, a necessary refuge; for idealists, an instrument of resistance and struggle.
Ambivalent, it is at times a place of comfort, at times a confusing and painful confrontation with the world. By reinvesting this popular motif, contemporary artists invite us to question its functions and imaginary power. The exhibition and its accompanying catalogue aim to bear witness to the richness of this theme and its generative power for artistic creation.
