Founded in 1971 by Mike Parr, Peter Kennedy, and Tim Johnson, Inhibodress was the first artist-run space in Sydney dedicated to conceptual, installation, and performance art. Operating from a small space in Woolloomooloo, it became a vital node in an international network of avant-garde artists, exchanging works and documentation with artists across Europe, North America, and South America through mail art and correspondence. Communications Trans Arts 3 (1972) was the gallery's most ambitious international project, organised by Peter Kennedy and bringing together around 65 artists from across the world. Works arrived by post as photographs, postcards, sound tapes, and documentation.
