"The installation piece Clearing is composed of numbered wooden sticks that were originally used for stirring paint. The installation bears this title because of the way the sticks are set up in the space, surrounding the viewer like a clearing in a forest. The way the sticks are assembled in the space plays a role in how the installation is perceived. Even though the pattern remains the same size, the walls will always play an essential role: each time the installation is set up, one has to know the dimensions of the wall or exhibition space because these factors influence the pattern and the distance between the sticks. When the piece is broken down and the wooden sticks are placed on a flat surface, the name of the piece must change because it is no longer the same piece. The installation’s title changes from Clearing to Suspended, a title which has been used before when the sticks are arranged in this way."
